Show Love

I like the Mary J. Blige song, "Show Love." It's good advice, don't you think? When we show people we love them, then we make them feel happy and we make ourselves feel good, too. I show my family and friends that I care about them by hugging them, smiling at them, helping them, and spending time with them.

How do you show love?

Some Thoughts about School

My Favorite and Least Favorite Subjects

When I was a student, my favorite subject in school was English, or Language Arts. I liked that class because I loved reading stories. In fact, I still read a lot in my free time. I read websites, novels, news, and sometimes poetry.

My least favorite subject in school was Physical Education. I didn't like it because I felt like I wasn't very good at the games we played. Also, we had to run a mile every Tuesday and Thursday. Most of the time, we ran outside, whether it was cold or not. I didn't think that was fair. It might surprise you, but know I enjoy running! I have run four half-marathon races, which are 13 miles long. I used to think running one mile was terrible, but now it's easy for me.

A Good Teacher

In my opinion, a good teacher is patient, friendly, smart, and strict. I had many good teachers, but one who really changed my life was Mike Mitchell. When I was in Mr. Mitchell's English class, I always had fun. Even though I was learning, and doing some difficult work, he made the time go quickly. Mr. Mitchell made me feel smart. He gave me the idea to be a teacher so that I could do the same thing for students. What do you think makes a good teacher?

Music Moods

I usually have Pandora free internet radio open and playing music whenever I'm working in my office or at home. The type of music that I play depends on my mood and energy level. Right now I have update music by Fun playing. Sometimes it's a bit more strange, like Janelle Monae. If I'm trying to shake a sad mood, or if it's really grey outside, I'll usually play Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles. If I'm angry, I'll try OK Go or Mary J. Blige to help me release energy.  If I really need to concentrate on what I'm doing, I find that instrumental music, like Mozart, helps me helps me focus on my work instead of singing along.

What kind of music do you like to listen to? Does it change depending on your mood?

Thanksgiving!

This year I'm grateful for my husband who is at my side, my family members who are far away, and the close friends who have become my second family in Denver.

Hello

I'm Jessica Montgomerie, an English teacher who lives in Denver, Colorado and currently teaches at the University of Denver. When I'm not working, I like to listen to free music online through or read books I've checked out from Denver Public Library. More and more these days, I'm reading ebooks on my iPad. It's so easy to find a book online, download it, and read it all without leaving my couch. I also like to get outside and walk, run, or hike.
